We drove back to the hotel and relaxed for a while.  The hotel management was directing patrons to other Marriott facilities around the city as the hot water had gone out again.  We inquired about the other places but decided to stay at the Residence Inn.  The convenience of the dual suite could not be found elsewhere.

Later in the evening we strolled over to the Alamo.  We wanted to take a horse-drawn carriage ride around the city.  The tour operators offer rides of twenty, forty, and sixty minutes.  We chose the forty-minute ride.  We learned some more history of the city (we weren't sure how much of it to believe, however) and arrived back at our starting point thirteen minutes later.  The harness driver explained that our horse trotted fast and that the drive had forgotten that we wanted a forty-minute ride and had given us the short ride instead.  She wasn't busy so she then gave us the forty-minute ride that took twenty-six minutes.  At least her ratios were consistent.  Thirteen and twenty-six add up to almost forty minutes so we were happy.

It was after ten o'clock when we finished our ride.  We made our way over to Riverwalk again but found that almost everything had closed.  We took a short stroll and returned to the hotel past the Alamo (even though I am still convinced that there was a more direct route to our hotel).  It was eleven o'clock and the carriage drivers were all going home for the night.  We watched them all trot off towards the southern part of the city where the horses are kept.
