table. We found an inside café with an opening to the walkway. We had lunch and watched people walk past.
After lunch we toured the Alamo. The history of the Alamo compels one to visit yet there's not much to do there. Few of the original walls remain and today's compound barely touches the original fortress grounds. The nice grassy areas inside today's walls are where Santa Anna's troops fought to gain entry to the fort.
We made dinner reservations for the Tower of the Americas, a revolving restaurant perched atop a five hundred fifty foot tower. The tower can be seen from just about everywhere in San Antonio. The restaurant revolves once every hour in the evenings. It spins faster during daylight hours to keep patrons from being baked in the sunlight. From our position in the restaurant we could see Riverwalk, our hotel, the Alamo, and the Alamodome. Ricky Martin was at the Alamodome tonight and every teenage girl from here to Dallas was in attendance.
After our dinner we went further up the tower to the observation deck and looked around. Then we descended and walked towards the southern end of Riverwalk, away from the big hotels. We passed Nolan Ryan and his familial entourage walking down the street. No, I'm not 100% sure it was Nolan Ryan - I didn't approach him, check his wallet, or hear him speak - but he looked just like Nolan Ryan. Since he's a Texan it's not unlikely that he would be on a San Antonio street on a Saturday night.
We found our way to the Riverwalk and proceeded back towards the hotel.
