Today we drove the south rim of the Grand Canyon.  This place, whose beauty and size defies all description or picture, was a large reason for our big trip.  I visited here in 1980 with my brother, his wife (then his girlfriend), and my cousin.  I wanted Ann to experience this fantastic place, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Much has changed in the past nineteen years.  They've added railings.  Nineteen years ago one could walk right up to (and over) the edge of the canyon.  Now most overlooks offer more protection.  On my previous trip my crazed brother and equally foolish cousin climbed out onto a dangerous-looking ledge.  There aren't many places where you can do that today.

An Imax theater at the entrance to the park provided a rich overview of the canyon.  Don't watch the film if you suffer from motion sickness!

It took most of the day to drive the west rim drive and the east rim drive, all part of the southern rim.  Pictures don't do justice to the actual canyon.  Many of my videos look washed out.  It's just impossible to capture the size and colors.  If you haven't visited this park, make your plans now!
