Continuing in my rich tradition of not planning anything, I called The Mirage this morning to obtain tickets to Siegfried & Roy.  Naturally both shows for this evening were sold out.  But they informed me that seats become available for every performance one hour before the show and that they always have cancellations.  We decided to get to The Mirage by 6:30 to get tickets for the 7:30 show.

Our trip to the Ethel M. Chocolate factory proved disappointing although their botanical gardens were worth the trip.  The "M" stands for Mars.  Yes, that famous Mars family.  Ethel M. Chocolates makes gourmet chocolates.  They charge about a dollar apiece.  Yikes!  The free samples turned out to be a single free sample.  Plus, the factory wasn't operating when we were there.  They were careful to have a large gift shop fully stocked, however.  The botanical gardens featured all types of southwestern plants and were well maintained.

We walked over to the Tropicana to see a magician named on the marquee but discovered that the theater is "dark" on Fridays.

We took a taxi to The Mirage and we purchased two tickets for the 7:30 show.  The theater is arranged with seating at tables and booths and seems to seat at least a thousand people.  We sat at a booth with a retired couple from Brooklyn, New York and a couple of gentlemen friends of theirs who seemed to be from both Las Vegas and also from Manhattan.  The one guy seemed particularly knowledgeable about the Siegfried & Roy show and volunteered that he had seen the show at least thirty times.

The show turned out to be a large production and not just a two-man affair.  It's difficult to describe everything that occurred.  The magic tricks amazed even me and I tried not to analyze everything that appeared and disappeared.  Siegfried & Roy feature white tigers and white lions and the animals perform admirably.  The show concluded with the disappearance and then reappearance of an elephant.
