Ann thought the drive through Nevada was boring until we got to Lake Tahoe.  For the first time during the trip she said she was bored and decided to watch Driving Miss Daisy.  Nevada just stretches on for hundreds of miles with nothing but sagebrush, desert, mountains, and casinos.  We expected to spend the night in Reno but found Reno to be nothing more than a town full of casinos.  It seemed to lack character.  Arriving in mid-afternoon we decided to go take a drive around Lake Tahoe, about forty minutes away. (I think we were given slow directions.  There are more direct ways of getting to the lake.)

Lake Tahoe changed all the boredom.  The lake is gorgeous.  About two-thirds of the lake (surface area and perimeter) are in California with the rest in Nevada.  The mountain lake is crystal-clear with claims that the bottom can be seen as far down as seventy-five feet.  They say the lake never freezes even though this is prime skiing territory.  Most of the lake is non-commercial except for the state boundaries.  We decided to spend the night in South Lake Tahoe in a hotel overlooking the lake.  What a beautiful place.
