(Continued from page 1)
Salt Lake City we caught Interstate 80 west and that's where we are now.
Idaho proved to be prettier than I had pictured. There certainly were less trailer homes than I thought. I only saw one. The part of Idaho we drove through was mountainous with nice farmland in the valleys and on the foothills of the mountains. We passed a llama farm where about twenty llamas were walking single-file through the pasture. We stopped and got out to take some photographs and three horses in the same pasture came up to greet us.
We also noticed something strange in Idaho that we need explained to us. We passed a dozen or more barns whose roofs were covered with sod and hay. They probably weren't barns but were shaped more like long chicken houses. The sod and hay provide perfect camouflage from the bombers flying over Idaho looking for barns to destroy. We couldn't figure out any other reason why these buildings would have the earth sloped up to the sides and then have organic material covering them. Strange.
The falls in Idaho Falls run right through the city. We didn't dwell long there. Parts of the earth in that part of Idaho seem volcanic and unusable. The mountains heading down toward Salt Lake City are picturesque and the land quickly gives way to farm and grazing land.
We just pulled over in the middle of the Nevada desert for a break and the stars are simply amazing. The moon is quickly following the sun and the stars practically light the way. Okay, the headlights help. The Milky Way stretches from one side of the sky to the other.
Ann just bypassed Wells, Nevada and thinks she can last driving to Elko, another fifty or sixty miles. I think we're going to drive to Reno tomorrow and spend a day visiting Reno and Lake Tahoe. We should be in San Francisco for the weekend. Our next national park will likely be Yosemite next Monday. I need to add a section to the web page showing our schedule.
