Wow!  Yellowstone must be God's playground.  This is the most incredible smorgasbord of land formations and animals ever assembled in one tiny park the size of Connecticut and Rhode Island combined.  Okay, it's huge.  Ann and I spent ten hours today driving the roads and hiking the various pathways and loops.  We saw bison, deer, elk, (almost saw a bear - it's a long story), coyotes, chipmunks, geese, ducks, and varieties of birds that we've never seen before.  We saw geysers, boiling springs, bubbling cauldrons of sulfur, steam vents, rivers, white water, lakes, mountains, canyons, mineral deposits, petrified trees, plains, swamps, waterfalls, rock formations, and sheer cliffs.  I knew this was a popular place to visit.  I've seen photographs.  But I never grasped the enormity and the uniqueness of this place.

I cannot begin to describe what we actually saw.  But the scenery changes every couple of miles.  Yellowstone Lake measures twenty miles by fourteen miles.  Yellowstone River carved its own Grand Canyon.  The mineral deposits make the canyon rocks yellow, hence "Yellowstone".  I hope to show you a lot of pictures but you should really buy a book with professional photographs like National Geographic.  Most of all, plan a vacation to come here.  They say that the crowds in summertime are horrible.  The traffic jams can stretch ten miles or more.  But early October seems to be the perfect time of the year.  This is nature's Disney World and the entrance fee is only $20 for the whole family for a week.  $50 gets the entire family admission to all U.S. national parks for a year!
