I finally got around to making our web page this morning. I uploaded all the pages and sent out a few emails announcing the page. Today was my birthday and I got a call on my cell phone from my dad and mom.
We drove down the mountains out of Estes Park and made our way up Interstate 25 towards Wyoming. Our next goal is Yellowstone National Park in the far northwestern corner of Wyoming. In Ft. Collins Ann saw a sign announcing the presence of the Budweiser Clydesdales. We stopped and saw the horses. One of them was named Jeff but we couldn't see him because he was out in the fields exercising.
We drove up Interstate 25 to Cheyenne and Casper before heading west on Rt. 20 towards Thermopolis. Wyoming is the most open and unpopulated state we've ever seen. It must be the dry season because most of the rivers were dry and the reservoirs were quite low. The gently rolling plains open up to big rocks, sheer cliffs, and buttes. Parts of the state are reminiscent of the old west movies. We saw bison, lots of cattle, and some sheep. We also came close to hitting a buck around dusk.
The roads go straight for miles and miles and the speed limit is usually 75 mph. We left Casper after the sun had set and we drove west into the sunset for the next two hours. Once the sun had set it took another hour and a half before the last streak of light left the western sky. With nothing on the horizon, the sky stretches on forever, filling the entire view. I know that Montana is called Big Sky country but it can't be any different than what we saw in Wyoming.
